Northern Quarter bar closes after 15 years
Black Dog Ballroom has closed its doors after 15 years.
The Northern Quarter basement bar, open since 2009, has this week been boarded up, fuelling speculation it was closing down.
Now the website for the NQ stalwart simply reads: "Black Dog Ballroom is now closed."
Meanwhile the bar's sister site, Dog Bowl on Whitworth Street West, remains open.
This follows last week's news that Cottonopolis, another longstanding NQ institution, is closing to rebrand this year.
With two of the neighbourhood's stalwarts no longer a going concern, it begs the question of how the makeup of the Northern Quarter is changing, and what the future will hold for other bars in the area.
