There's firework displays and bonfire celebrations taking place right across the region for Guy Fawkes night, where we celebrate the capture and execution of the man who neither devised or even lead the plot to assassinate James I, but the muppet found at the end of 2,500kg of gunpowder with a 'slowmatch' early in the morning of 5 November 1605.
Still, here's a list of five of the most spectacular “oh-ah” displays in all of Manchester and Salford. Wrap up warm, slip a hipflask down your sock and enjoy...

INTU TRAFFORD CENTRE | Barton Square | Sun 2 November | 6pm
Always one of the most spectacular fireworks displays in the North West, with an enormous budget to blow on rockets, pyrotechnics and anything else that looks fantastic shooting across the sky. Shops stay open until 10pm too, in case fireworks aren't your thing, or you're a dog.
HEATON PARK | Wed 5 November | Fun fair from 5pm | Bonfire and fireworks from 7:30pm
One of the largest Bonfire Nights in the region in one of the most scenic spots in the region. As well as a huge bonfire and fireworks display, there'll be a funfair and the chance to scoff a few treats. BEWARE though, if you're driving parking spaces are limited and £5 a pop. So better to get the tram.
OLDHAM EDGE | Wed 5 November | Funfair, stalls & entertainment from 5pm | Fireworks from 7pm

Still, there'll be hesaps of entertainment through the night provided by Brazilian Juba De Leao drummers, the Ghandini jugglers and Fire Man Dave with his spectacular fire-juggling team. Yep, Fire Man Dave is what he's chosen to go with.
BUILE HILL PARK | Wed 5 November | Bonfire and fireworks from 7:30pm | Fun fair: until 9pm
Another scenic location for a display, similar to Heaton Park but a touch on the smaller side. Still, it's the largest display in all of Salford. WARNING: there's no parking on site, but the park is serviced by a number of buses and those with a healthy set of pins can walk there from Salford Crescent train station in under half an hour.
PLATT FIELDS | Wed 5 November | Bonfire and fireworks from 7:30pm | Fun fair from 5pm
Set by the two main student quarters of Manchester, Fallowfield and Rusholme, expect a crowd of rambunctious academics alongside families at this one. Platt Fields always has a hefty turn-out, being the closest large display to the city centre, so turn up early doors to avoid frowny faces.
