THE Northern Quarter’s Bench Self Made Gallery is set to make a creative mark on the city this December, hosting a series of events, exhibitions and workshops in collaboration with some of Manchester’s finest makers and creators.

In the Loop on Saturday 1 December offers insights into making beats and writing bars, ending with an open mic session.

Bench has evolved from a group of friends selling their t-shirt designs in Manchester to a global lifestyle brand. The Gallery will welcome musicians, creatives, artists and DJs to use the space as an artistic hub and platform for their work.

The gallery has also launched the first of a series of educational partnerships briefing Salford University’s advertising students to devise an engaging concept to promote the space and its content that could result in a live campaign.

Saturday afternoons are dedicated to a series of interactive Self Made Workshops offering the chance to learn new skills, consult experts and meet like-minded people. In the Loop on Saturday 1 December offers insights into making beats and writing bars, ending with an open mic session.

The following week (Saturday 8 December) the Self Made DJ Masterclass is a collaboration between some of Manchester high profile DJs offering an interactive insight into DJing, record digging and everything in between.

Creative networking group Northern Digitals will host their fifth BLAB Mini at the Self Made Gallery on the evening of Tuesday 11 December, a social event where six creatives have 15 minutes to share their thoughts and inspirations in a quick-fire presentation on 'Things I've Seen.'

Currently exhibiting in the gallery is All in the Wrist, a collection of ‘cardboard chaos’ curated by Moot and featuring works by Tasha Whittle, TJ “KREK” Dolan, Lottie Smith and Tea One. Graphic innovator, Moot, is also behind the store’s Elf Made Christmas window.

This is closely followed by international design college Shillington’s end of year show, in which students will design a poster on the theme ‘Sell Yourself’ with the aim of inviting the local creative community into the gallery to view their work.

The new year will see the Self Made Gallery trying to develop partnerships with creative students including those in styling, fashion and photography. Then there’s the Self Made competition winner exhibition starting on the 7 January.

Busy times.
