OLD and new blues, rare ales, and fine home-made food – the Beer 'n' Blues Weekend at Band on the Wall is ticking all the boxes this July.
Mud was nominated for the Best Album and the Traditional Blues Male Artist awards
Mud Morganfield, son of the legendary blues icon Muddy Waters, kicks off the three-day annual festival on Friday 19 July. He's followed by Ian Parker and Chantel McGregor on Saturday. The weekend culminates in an acoustic session with up-and-coming artists James Kelly and Rik Warren on Sunday.
Throughout the weekend, The Picturehouse Cafe Bar is offering a glorious range of beers, ales and grub to enjoy as the music plays.
Mud Morganfield was brought up surrounded by many of the finest Chicago blues players, but is critically acclaimed in his own right – he was nominated for the Best Album and Traditional Blues Male Artist categories at the 2013 Blues Foundation Blues Music Awards.
55 years after his father first came to England to play the Manchester Free Trade Hall, he comes to another one of the city’s most iconic music venues, Band on the Wall.
He plays on Friday night, and is followed the next day by both Ian Parker and Chantel McGregor (playing afternoon and evening sessions respectively), two of the finest contemporary rock/blues guitarists.
Band on the Wall's very own ale-master Adam has chosen Green Mill, Thwaites, Hornbeam, Titanic, XT Breweries and more to tickle tastebuds with sixteen cask ales and some superb ciders.
The Picturehouse's much praised chef Giles is providing some of his glorious pub grub and home-made pies for punters. The Magic Band and Billy Bragg loved his food when they visited recently – make sure you try it.
