BBC Philharmonic Presents 2014 Line-Up Revealed

CLEAN Bandit, Culture Club and Jarvis Cocker are all set to play BBC Philharmonic Presents 2014 this autumn.

"Tickets for all shows in the BBC Philharmonic Studio are free and will be allocated via random ballot with 30% of tickets going to local residents in Salford."

BBC Philharmonic Presents creates collaborations between the 90-piece orchestra and both new and established artists, challenging preconceptions of orchestral music. Acts are joined by presenters from Radio One, Two and Three, with concerts broadcast across national networks, including BBC Radio Manchester.

Jarvis Cocker, the frontman of Britpop favourites Pulp, will present a special edition of his award-winning Radio Four series Wireless Nights accompanied by the orchestra.

Clean Bandit’s latest album New Eyes is being transformed into a brand new orchestral arrangement which will then be performed live on Radio One. Summertime hit Rather Be will feature in this unusual symphony.

Eighties icons Culture Club, with frontman Boy George, are going to give audiences a blast from the past when they revisit Colour By Numbers for Radio Two. The arrangement will feature hits such as Karma Chameleon and It’s A Miracle.

Sports lovers might be intrigued by The Symphony of Medinah which will look to recreate the drama of the 2010 Ryder Cup through music, narration and poetry.

The series also aims to attract the young and so a section of BBC Radio Three’s In Tune will simulcast (simultaneous broadcast) with Blue Peter live on CBBC. The night will feature the repertoire that forms the basis of BBC’s Ten Pieces schools project, a campaign to encourage a new generation to get involved in classical music.

For those with more global tastes BBC Asian Network will be celebrating the work of one of India’s greatest composers, RD Burman.

Ending the series will be a poignant reflection on World War One, as the recollections of a local Salford man are set to music and performed live on BBC Radio Manchester in the dramatic spaces of IWM North.
