Thumbs up for UK's ‘first new build food market hall’

Plans to build the UK's 'first new build food market hall' in Urmston have been given the thumbs up by Trafford Council.

Located in the heart of the town centre opposite the train station, Market 41 will feature ten to twelve food and drink operators positioned around a central communal seating area - emulating the model that has proved such a success at Altrincham Market House and the Mackie Mayor in the Northern Quarter.

It has been a long time coming and we know that excitement and anticipation has been mounting

The Altrincham-based McGoff Group are behind the scheme and hope to begin work on the 160-180 cover hall with mezzanine, private dining and outdoor seating areas as soon as January 2019.

McGoff say that have already received interest from 50 operators from across the North West, from artisan traders to independent restaurant owners, and expect the number to 'triple in the coming weeks'.

McGoff director Chris McGoff said: “It is fantastic news that we have received planning consent for Market 41. It has been a long time coming and we know that excitement and anticipation has been mounting in Urmston and the surrounding areas for many months.

“We strategically choose Urmston for Market 41 as the town already has a vibrant and flourishing independent and artisan food and drink scene. Market 41 will simply enhance this further. We have taken time with the design of the building, its layout, the interior décor as well as the outdoor space to create a superb, stylish, flexible, family-friendly food market hall with space for pop-up stalls and both private and community events."

According to a recent report by real estate services group Cushman & Wakefield, there are now over 100 food halls in cities across Europe, with a further 200 venues in the pipeline.

Market 41 is expected to open late in 2019.
