CONFIDENTIAL has just spotted what look like plans for a new bar on Northern Quarter’s Stevenson Square – home to the likes of Soup Kitchen, PLY and Guilty by Association.

The new venue could take the number of bars on Stevenson Square to a hefty twelve, 50% of which have opened since 2013

Mark Andrew Developments (aka MAD Ltd) – the company behind a swathe of Manchester restaurants and bars including Infamous Diner, Walrus and Hula – have just submitted to the council a premises application (see below) for ‘Selfless’, in the basement of Habib House.

Yep, that unsightly defunct bank on the corner of Stevenson Square and Lever Street which has been bugging Confidential (and no doubt everyone else that wishes better for Stevenson Square) for some time.

Proposed hours for the supply of alcohol run from Monday to Thursday 11am to 3am, Friday to Saturday 11am to 4am, and Sunday 11am to 2am.

Sounds like a late one to us.

MAD director Mark Andrew – who also runs Rosylee and The Fitzgerald next door – first announced plans to transform the old bank back in March 2015.

A spokesperson for MAD told Confidential that the group first plans to move their headquarters to Habib House, before continuing plans for the new venue. Though the recently erected scaffolding would suggest renovation works are well underway.

Once MAD's new venue opens, it will take the number of drinking establishments on Stevenson Square to a hefty twelve - 50% of which have opened in the past three years.

Earlier this year MAD also got its hands on Chalk Bar & Grill in Didsbury, after owner Chris Longmate, chief executive of the On The Wall group, sought to offload his restaurant assets.

A fate which Confidential hears will soon befall Longmate's only other bar and restaurant, Quill on King Street.
