Fans favourite Javier Hernández surprisingly headed to Real Madrid after they missed out on Falcao but appears destined for more bench-timein an attack heavy Madrid squad.

Seemingly planned and executed to perfection, the Manchester City summer recruitment drive ended weeks ago with targets signed with minimum of fuss. Though there was a slight flurry on transfer deadline day as Álvaro 'The Beast' Negredo made a last minute exit on loan to Valencia. The Pellegrini master plan wants two players for every one position and with City expected to challenge all four trophy fronts the three strikers will need to stay fit. Worries over the restrictions of over 21-year-old foreign players allowed in the Champions League squads may be partly why Negredo has been allowed to move on, though removing Richards and Rowell’s wages will help the strain to meet FFP regulations going forward.

Liverpool were another side that did their business early and sat back to watch the transfer deadline day drama unfold from afar. Spending the Suarez money came easy to Brendan Rodgers with Southampton happy beneficiaries. Mario Balotelli will be one to watch on Merseyside, with the ability to amaze and amuse but in need of some consistency in what has been claimed as his 'final chance at a top club'. Former favourites Reina and Agger left Anfield quietly but it is the loss of the goals (and drama) of Luis Suarez that will affect the side the most. He did return on Transfer Deadline Day to Anfield, not in a big money move, but to say his goodbyes and maybe apologise to his former teammates.

Spending big money in a transfer window isn’t usually Everton’s forte. So the signing of Lukaku needs to be a success as most of their budget was blasted on this. All transfer dealings were done before transfer deadline day and the much talked about signing of Tom Cleverley never materialised - to some fans relief. Securing Samuel Eto'o could proved huge for The Toffees, he scored in every other game for Chelsea.

Burnley
Tasked with maintaining the squad spirit and core that got them promoted with a needed increase in quality of a moderately sized squad has seen Burnley sign ten players. Transfer Deadline Day saw the arrivals on loan of Keane and Chalobah and both come with glowing references from their parent clubs and U21 national honours. George Boyd also arrived, but on previous form seems to be too good for the Championship and not quite good enough for the Premiership. He'll need to prove doubters wrong to give Burnley some chance of survival.
