And it promises not to be under par
A new ‘cosy and sophisticated’ wine bar and lounge, with an all-day menu, will open its doors in Spinningfields this month.
Albatross and Arnold is located above new urban golf venue, The Range, in Leftbank (between Beastro and Scene Indian Restaurant).
But despite the venue’s name - a merger of the term for a pretty impressive score of three-under-par on a single hole and American golfing legend Arnold Palmer - it promises not to be a sports bar.
Owner and golf fanatic Andrew McLoughney has gathered together what he thinks is a crack management/kitchen team to offer a grown-up wine bar serving a selection of small sharing plates designed for informal eating.
Chef Oliver Hampson has created a menu of comfort food inspired by the British Isles using carefully sourced seasonal game, meat, fish and vegetables.
They have shared some dishes from their menu development process on social media, such as Lancashire cheese bon bons with watercress and balsamic pearls; venison sausage Yorkshire puddings; and trio of pork with pork crackling, ham hock bon bons and an apple and cinnamon gel – all designed to be picked at with one hand while holding a drink in the other.
Along with a small but perfectly crafted selection of cocktails such as thyme and grapefruit negroni or blueberry and lovage martini, Albatross and Arnold plan to specialise in really good wine – with twenty wines available by the glass as well as the bottle.
Non-golfing guests are free to pop in for a drink and a bite to eat from lunchtime until late, along with those who also want to spend a bit of time downstairs enjoying one of the top-of-the-range golf simulators and a raised putting green.
Albatross and Arnold will be ready to open for business mid-late November. In the meantime, you could win a £200 bar tab here.
