CONFIDENTIAL PROMOTION

It began with a menu that smelled delectably of pecan and ended with a ‘Moroccan spiced chocolate pot’ that should really have been called ‘spiced Heaven in a pot’. In between was a sweet and savoury medley of taste, texture and tongue-tingling confections, enjoyed in the sleek minimalist surrounds of Harvey Nichols Second Floor Brasserie.

Sample chocolate engineering at its finest

Behind the sensory feast is award-winning chocolatier Paul A. Young, whose fusions of well-known classics with fresh innovative flavours have earned him multiple Chocolate Academy golds and an esteemed chain of London-based chocolateries, including a flagship store on Wardour Street in Soho. Now, to celebrate Choctober, the cocoa artisan is tickling taste buds nationwide with a unique collaboration with Harvey Nichols that gives the British afternoon tea institution a contemporary chocolate twist throughout October.

Young himself opened the Manchester event, with a speech outlining the creative menu; his passion for his craft, coupled with exceptional warmth and vivacity, certainly got appetites warmed. A northerner himself, the trained pastry chef plans to expand to Manchester early next year but his special afternoon tea for Harvey Nichols is for one month only. Consumed to the melodic tune of a talented pianist, as light streamed in through vast floor-to-ceiling windows, for me it hit the perfect note in every respect.

Don’t miss this special opportunity to sample chocolate engineering at its finest. Be warned though, it may leave you wanting more...

Paul A. Young Chocolate Afternoon Tea menu is available at Harvey Nichols Manchester until 31 October, priced at £20 and Champagne Chocolate Afternoon Tea at £28. For more information, call 0161 828 8898 or email secondfloor.reservations@harveynichols.com
