Double Rosette win for Simon and team
WOOD only opened its doors to punters in September, but it’s already made a runaway success of bringing a bit of taste to First Street – and now it’s been rewarded further by picking up a highly sought-after AA gong. WOOD was anticipated as a hit by Manchester’s foodies even before it started garnering praise in the likes of The Guardian and The Telegraph less than six months in, and winning two Rosettes for Culinary Excellence in the prestigious long-standing nationwide Rosette Award Scheme is confirmation of its place in the city’s culinary constellation.
Offering an unintimidating high-end dining experience with simple yet stylish seasonal dishes, WOOD Manchester’s double Rosette rating is well deserved, and awarded after just one visit from an AA inspector. But the team behind the restaurant isn’t resting on its laurels, with a second site set to open next year in Chester’s new Hotel Indigo.
Owned by MasterChef 2015 champion Simon Wood, he’s unsurprisingly delighted to be adding to his trophy cabinet. Wood Restaurants owner Simon says: “This Double Rosette Award from AA means a lot to me as it really is all about the quality of the food and the ingredients that go in to it, which is what we do best. To have that recognised by a title as prestigious as the AA Rosette Scheme is a huge achievement. We’ve accomplished so much already in less than a year of opening so it’s a great honour to have this award sitting proudly in the restaurant.”
