NO ONE could have anticipated how well Vogue’s Fashion Night Out was going to fair in Manchester.

It was a few doors down in the city’s two main department stores where the ‘buzz’ many described on Twitter was really in the air.

Straying from London for the first time ever, retailers and shoppers alike got into the spirit of the annual evening of fashion, discounts, special appearances and other perks in a way which made it a Manchester experience as much as a Vogue one.

The night kicked off with British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman and the rest of the Vogue team at Hugo Boss on New Cathedral Street. But it was a few doors down in the city’s two main department stores where the ‘buzz’ many described on Twitter was really in the air.

Fashion designers Roksanda Ilincic and Jonathan Saunders were at Harvey Nichols, while radio presenter Jameela Jamil was on the decks at a jam packed Selfridges. Over in Manchester Arndale, Topshop creative director Kate Phelan offered styling tips in Topshop and Vogue retail editor Ginnie Chadwyck-Healey gave a trend talk at Kurt Geiger.

King Street was transformed into Vogue Eats, with street food vendors serving up cakes, hot chocolates and pizza. Chef Aldo Zilli was in the Vogue spirit at Vogue's official cafe, Cicchetti, where he was making stilletto shaped pasta. The focus was also on food as well as fashion over at Hervia Bazaar where chefs from the Yang Sing served shoppers their favourite Dim Sum selection.

Later on in the evening, Manchester-born designer Matthew Williamson joined Alexandra Shulman for a photo call and signing on The Avenue in Spinningfields after stopping by designer clothes haven Flannels to meet and greet guests.

While rumours of sightings of David Beckham and even Kylie Minogue around town were unfounded, there was more than enough going on to keep shoppers entertained until the shops closed at 10pm, and beyond for those who went to after parties at the Malmaison, Australasia and Neighbourhood or even the free JJ Rosa gig at St Ann's church. Manchester, you did us proud.
