Pizza Madre will open opposite San Carlo's flagship on King Street West

AFTER snapping up the opportunity to take over 47 King Street West as soon as the previous occupiers relinquished the (still warm) keys, the San Carlo Group has today announced that the venue is to become a new Neapolitan pizza concept.

Pizza Madre will serve a range of traditional pizzas cooked in a wood burning oven as well as rotisserie chicken. The name ‘madre’ translates from Italian as ‘mother’ and so alludes to more of an authentic home style of cooking.

Pizza Madre’s bar will offer a selection of Italian artisan beers alongside great value wines.

San Carlo Group Managing Director, Marcello Distefano, said: “We’re excited to be bringing a very new and different concept to Manchester and look forward to revealing more soon.”

Pizza Madre will open at 47 King Street West

The new pizza restaurant is located directly opposite the award-winning Italian family-owned San Carlo flagship and next door to San Carlo Cicchetti on what should probably be renamed King Carlo Street West, after group founder, Carlo Distefano (pictured).

The San Carlo Group acquired the site late last year and immediately turned it into winter pop-up restaurant, FEAST, in collaboration with itinerant Mancunian chef Robert Owen Brown.

Pizza Madre is set to open late spring, following a major refurbishment.
