SAN Carlo on King Street West has long been one of the city's best bets for celebrity spotting. But for most of us, the draw of this Manchester classic isn't the chance of being seated next to an A-lister, it's the consistently wonderful Italian food.

They have a large selection of wines by the glass or the half bottle, including prosecco and champagnes. This is undoubtedly a glamorous place (Vogue describes San Carlo as 'a must for lovers of fine Italian cuisine') but it's priced to be accessible. Not that you need to concern yourself with that, with £100 in your pocket.
