POLICE have confirmed that two people suffered head injuries when a section of Victoria Station’s futuristic new roof gave way around 4.30pm on Tuesday 18 October.

It is believed that the panels between the roof ribs – filled with ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene – a ‘lighter and cheaper alternative to glass’) – buckled under heavy rainwater above platforms one and two.
Eyewitnesses say the force of the falling water 'blasted two people to the floor'.
Earlier in the day Confidential reader @Daw491 tweeted us an image (below) which appeared to show one of the panels collecting water hours before the accident took place.
British Transport Police cordoned off an area of the station as Northern Rail contractors made repairs and inspected neighbouring panels.
A Northern Rail spokesperson stated: "The station remains opens, as do all platforms with no disruption to services."
The station – voted Britain’s ‘worst station’ in 2009 – reopened in October last year following a £44m renovation.
