A m*** f*** BBQ and a 10-course vegan tasting menu

Manchester's vegan community are very well catered for. There are tons of options for plant-based palates with everything from pizza and kebabs to fine dining having been given a cruelty-free makeover. This week alone, there are two exciting events for your diary whether you're already meat-free, flexi or just curious.

It's BBQ, Jim, but not as you know it

While technically it is barbecue season, our love of charred-on-the-outside, questionable-on-the-inside treats is outclassed only by our love of staying dry and not getting food poisoning.

There is an alternative to your classic British BBQ. Turning practically every barbecue expectation on its head, Meatless Farm is taking over Secret City in Manchester to launch the UK’s first-ever plant-based "barbe-thru" from today (9 August).

What, pray tell, is a barbe-thru? Why it’s a barbecue drive-thru, of course. Located right next to the Trafford Centre, the M*** F*** Barbe-Thru three-day pop-up is open to all, including cars, bikes, walkers and e-scooters, to pass through, park up or sit at picnic benches to enjoy some banging beats, barbecue eats and bar drinks (only the non-drivers though, eh?).

There is not a ton of detail about what will be on the menu but we can guess it will be based around the Meatless Farm hotdogs and burgers - including a plant-based katsu dog and loaded fries.

The first 50 visitors each day will receive "a delicious free barbecue dish", otherwise prices start from just £5 and entry is free. Keeping things green, Meatless Farm is also giving a 50% discount to those in electric cars, on bicycles or e-scooters. The M*** F*** barbe-thru takes place on 9-11 August 12 noon-8.30pm, free entry.

Hell's Kitchen vegan tasting menu

In other vegan-friendly news, The Allotment Vegan Eatery is hosting US-based chef Josie Clemens for a 10-course tasting menu. The Michigan native is the first-ever vegan chef to compete in Hell’s Kitchen, the Emmy-nominated TV show hosted by Gordon Ramsay.

The event will apparently feature "a once in a lifetime vegan dish that will be an unmissable event". Guests can also expect a Q&A about Josie's participation in Hell's Kitchen, her experience with working with Gordon Ramsay, veganism and photo ops.

The Allotment is also collaborating with Speak in Code on a selection of vegan cocktails which will be "perfectly paired" with the dishes on offer. You can book Kitchen Takeover with Josie Clemens for dinner on 12 August or lunch or dinner on the 13 August with tickets starting from £40.
