SHORTLY before 1.15pm on Wednesday 31 October police were called to an address on Burton Road, West Didsbury, following the discovery of a WWI shell being found. 

Officers attending the call discovered that the century old device had not been detonated. 

A bomb disposal squad is now en route to disarm the explosive device and make sure the residential area is safe.

Burton Road was immediately cordened off with residents being asked to evacuate the area and business forced to close. Several surrounding streets have now also been closed with residents being asked to remain indoors as a precaution.
