CONFIDENTIAL recently complained about the lack of Caribbean restaurants in Manchester (see here).
But Caribbean restaurant and bar chain, Turtle Bay, is set to open a new restaurant on Oxford Street - its first in the north.
We like that kind of synergy.
Opening its doors on Friday 30 May, Turtle Bay is to transform Alibi bar (behind the new One St Peter's Square), into a 8000 sq ft ‘fuss free, colourful and soulful’ restaurant offering.

With a generous one million pound renovation, Turtle Bay will feature 250 covers, a large central island bar and indoor veranda style drinking terrace.
As to be expected, Turtle Bay boasts a spice-rich menu ‘influenced by a rich tapestry of ethnicities’ with dishes including carnivore friendly favourites such as jerk ribs, patties and curry goat.

Ajith Jayawickrema, Turtle Bay Founder, said: “We can’t wait to throw the doors open to Manchester.

We think the people of Manchester will love what we have to offer, as it’s a city known for its no nonsense approach to high quality food and drink, and of course one that knows how to have a good time. We think we’ll fit in well in our new home.”
There’s promise of an island party atmosphere at Turtle Bay, inspired by the ‘laid back, social outlook of the Caribbean’. Keeping to Turtle Bay’s party ethos, the restaurant lists a rum-heavy cocktail menu, with over 30 rum brands.
Turtle Bay's arrival comes with high expectations.
Currently, popular Manchester Caribbean food establishments focus on a takeaway offering and many hope Turtle Bay will encourage more quality Caribbean restaurants to come to Manchester City Centre.
Also unveiling new restaurants in Leamington Spa and Birmingham, Turtle Bay is set to create 70 jobs in its Manchester branch.
