Our top tips for starting your journey off on the right foot

Solo travellers are fearless when it comes to new experiences alone, and, thanks to the variety of things to do before you fly from Manchester Airport’s T1, there’s plenty of new experiences to be had before you even step foot on your plane.

Flying solo for your next trip? No worries. Here are our top tips for making the most of your airport experience.

Arrive in plenty of time

It might sound obvious, but arriving in plenty of time for your flight is a must. It means that you’ll have plenty of time to get through security, relax and unwind, and explore what’s on offer at T1. In fact, being early to the airport is a bonus - from gift shops, to restaurants, to gaming zones and more, you’ll not be sitting clock-watching here.

Get your souvenirs early

Who says gifts and trinkets are just for the way back? Whether you’re visiting family members who live abroad, or you just want to take a piece of home away with you, there’s plenty of shops at T1 for doing just that. Those looking for a memento of Manchester to accompany their travels will love a visit to The Sculpts. New to T1, this lovely little shop showcases iconic decorative homeware and lifestyle accessories from the Manchester-born brand, stocking everything from bespoke lettered tiles and initial mugs to greetings cards and bee-shaped lapel pins.

Fancy a cuddly companion to join you as you travel the world? Pop into Hamley’s for an adorable fuzzy friend.

Grab a quick bite to eat at one of the many vendors and restaurants

Flying on an empty stomach is a no go, and when there’s so many delectable quick eats available at Manchester Airport, why would you? Skip feeling hangry and grab yourself something sweet from Krispy Kreme, an ice cold coffee from Starbucks, or a satisfying savoury snack from Pret or Upper Crust

Got plenty of time and prefer a proper sit down meal instead? There’s Giraffe, The Grain Loft and PizzaLuxe to suit all tastes.

Pick up a book

Books are ideal for making the time fly by while you’re up in the sky (or while you’re lounging by the pool - your call), so make sure you grab a great read or two from WHSmith

There’s also magazines available if you’d prefer to keep up to date with what your favourite celeb’s been up to, as well as puzzles and crosswords for keeping your brain alert and active.

Treat yourself to some TLC

When we look good, we feel good, and there’s no better time to treat yourself to that new perfume or a fresh set of nails than before a holiday. Unwind with a massage and update your nails to match the latest trend at AeroSpa. Don’t forget to pick up some travel-sized cosmetics and fragrances from World Duty Free, too!
