The Science and Technology Facilities Council's Central Laser Facility, home to some of the most powerful lasers in the world, will be taking control of the Platform for Investigation at the MOSI on Saturday 17 January. Witness levitating clouds, a laser that can copy a supernova, and capture light in your hands. Great one for the kiddywinks.

To mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, the Imperial War Museum North at Salford Quays will be running a series of 'Closer Look' tours where you'll hear stories of Holocaust survivor and artist Edith Birkin and Ruth Wasserman, who came to Britain on the Kindertransport in 1939.
