Too Many Owners event will see bosses from Albert's Schloss, Almost Famous, Crazy Pedro's and more take to the decks for charity
A number of Manchester's best known bar and restaurant owners are set to go head to head in a one-off DJ battle for charity Action against Hunger.
The Too Many Owners event - taking place in Northern Quarter''s Tariff & Dale on Wednesday 7th November (from 6.30pm 'til late) - will see the likes of Albert's Schloss co-owner Neil Macleod go up against El Gato Negro chef patron Simon Shaw and Lyndon Higginson of Crazy Pedro's.
Other names taking part are Jon Kirby (Almost Famous), Gary Kilroy (Arcane), James Ramsbottom (Dukes92), Pete Skelton (El Capo), Karina Jadhav (Menagerie), David Fox (Tampopo) and Jonathan Leathley (The Bagel Shop).
The first round will showcase each DJs ‘skills’ with a ten minute free-flowing set of any music of their choosing. Qualifiers will then compete for a place in the final by playing to the crowd, track by track.
The final will see the challengers 'showcasing their music knowledge and mixing talents', trading punch for punch, track for track, matching and mixing.
It could be great. It could be a shambles. Either way it's going to be a laugh.
Too Many Owners was the brainchild of Nick de Sousa, owner of Tariff & Dale and The Lead Station in Chorlton. He said: “Music is such an important part of any experience in a venue and as owners, we ask DJs to entertain our customers every week with no idea of just how difficult it is. We are about to find out.”
The winner will decided by the attending public and Manchester DJ royalty, Luke Cowdrey and Justin Crawford, aka The Unabombers (who also own Volta in Didsbury and Electrik in Chorlton). The punditry (and piss taking) will be lead by Mojo's immoveable Adam Binnersley.
Tickets are priced at £15 advance (£20 on the door) and include drink, food and a boogie. Tariff & Dale are kindly donating their takings on the night to Action Against Hunger - who last month raised an impressive £19.2k at Manchester's inaugural Auction Against Hunger event, partnered by Confidential.
The charity is aiming to raise £10,000 at the event, through ticket/wet sales and a raffle on the night - with prizes including slap-up meals, brewery tours and VIP festival tickets.
Caroline Dyer, partnerships manager at Action Against Hunger, said: “Action Against Hunger has been kindly supported by Manchester’s food and drinks industry for many years. Their support usually takes the form of chefs cooking, bars making special cocktails and owners donating or buying prizes at our events… a DJ battle is something I never could have predicted, and we are so excited for it."
The money raised will be used to support Action Against Hunger's vital work in disaster hit areas like Yemen and Nepal. For more info visit actionagainsthunger.org
