STOCKPORT is gearing up to host The Teenage Market on Sunday 1 April, where youngsters can show off their creative skills.

The teens, some as young as 14, will take over the Victorian Market Hall, running stalls and selling their work.

We hope it will help to build a creative community in Stockport and highlight an interesting part of the town that many people just don’t know about

The event, organised by 17-year-old arts student Tom Barratt in connection with Screen Stockport film festival, aims to give the budding artists and entrepreneurs a platform to promote themselves and engage with the local community.

Tom, who studies art and design at Stockport’s Aquinas College, said: “We want to create a festival style event in Stockport that brings young people into the market area, which has the potential to be as vibrant as the Northern Quarter in Manchester.

“We hope it will help to build a creative community in Stockport and highlight an interesting part of the town that many people just don’t know about.”

The market will run from 12pm-4pm and will feature live DJs, hairdressing demonstrations courtesy of Stockport College and a tea stall in aid of Wellspring homeless charity. There will also be live acoustic musicians, comedy and an analogue camera workshop run by Manchester-based Lomography.

Admission is £1, but students and concessions get in free.
