THE Hallé Orchestra will invite audiences to 'pay what they like' for an upcoming concert in Manchester.

If people have not heard the Hallé’s music before this is the perfect event for them

The 157-year old orchestra will perform ten pieces spanning 300 years of music at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall on Sunday 6 September. While tickets usually range from £10-£40, entry this time is free (pre-book online) with audiences asked to pay what they they think the experience is worth on the day.

The new try-before-you-buy style concert is a bold attempt to engage new ears; those curious about classical music and those that may have never heard a live symphony orchestra.

John Summers, the Hallé’s Chief Executive said, “Our concert will allow new audiences to experience the Hallé and enjoy some incredible music, but on their own terms. If people have not heard the Hallé’s music before this is the perfect event for them.”

The informal event will allow audience members to come and go as they like, bring drinks into the concert hall and enjoy as much classical numbers as they wish.

The concert, conducted by Stephen Bell, will include pieces by Bach, Mozart, Wagner and Stravinsky.

Tickets are available online at www.halle.co.uk/pricelessclassics, in person from The Bridgewater Hall box office at or by calling 0161 907 9000.
