The future’s bright with Solar Together

FANCY finding out more about helping Greater Manchester become the UK’s leading green city region? Course you do – who would’t want a brighter future for themselves and their loved ones? Residents around Greater Manchester (including the districts of Bolton, Bury, Manchester City, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan) are coming together as a community to create a group-buying scheme for solar panels on their homes – and you can join them. 

Right now, Solar Together Greater Manchester, the solar photovoltaic (PV) group-buying scheme that is helping to boost local renewable energy generation, is looking to expand its members. Free to register, the scheme offers one of the cheapest ways for homeowners to have the best quality solar panels installed (although rest assured that there’s no obligation to go ahead if you feel it’s not for you in the end). Let them know you’re interested online before 22 October, when the UK’s top solar PV suppliers will bid for the contract and after which you will receive a personal recommendation.

An initiative of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and the group-buying specialist iChoosr Ltd, the new Solar Together Greater Manchester scheme will contribute to reducing carbon emissions and follows three successful schemes last year which saw over 1,650 installations across the country and an impressive 35,000 tonnes of avoided lifetime carbon emissions. 

Councillor Andrew Western, region lead of Greater Manchester Green City, says: “This scheme will contribute to Greater Manchester’s aim to become a carbon neutral city region by 2038. The Greater Manchester Solar Together scheme is an innovative new scheme which will collectivelydeliver more local renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions. It’s a great opportunity to install solar PV panels at a competitive price.”
