Capital&Centric’s new Stockport neighbourhood is starting to come to life
The North’s first female focused sports bar, Rita Rays, has officially opened its doors bringing big games on screen and a buzzing, lively atmosphere to the new neighbourhood.
The new opening at Weir Mill, Capital&Centric’s new Stockport development has kicked off its run of hotly anticipated independent venues, with Bodega wine bar and Kontrol Pilates following closely behind.
Bodega will open from 2pm this afternoon (Friday 21 August). Part wine bar, part hidden-away vault, the new spot takes its cues from the effortlessly cool haunts in Europe, creating a new place to settle in over a glass of your favourite wine, right inside the historic mill.
Opening on Monday (24 August) is Kontrol - a pilates studio which brings New York vibes to the heart of Stockport. Kontrol’s new home will offer reformer and mat Pilates from a design-led space that feels right at home in its industrial setting.
Alongside its independent food, drink and wellness spaces, Weir Mill is home to 253 design-led rental homes, with shared spaces including a rooftop garden, gym and studio, co-working spaces, mini cinema, private dining room and lounge.
Those keen to make Weir Mill their home can take a look inside the new developments at the residential launch this Saturday (22 August). This will be followed closely by the official launch of the independent businesses when Social Trattoria, Prologue and The Jane Eyre will join the fun, bringing together a seriously good independent line-up of food, drink and wellness operators in the heart of Stockport.
Anthony Powell, Head of Work&Social at Capital&Centric, said: “We’ve been talking about the line-up at Weir Mill for a while now, so it feels great to finally be at the point where our doors are opening. And we’re just getting started.
“With the residential launch on Saturday 22 August and the full food and drink line-up coming together in October, Weir Mill will really be able to show Stockport’s residents and visitors what it’s all about. A neighbourhood where you can work out in the morning, grab some food, meet your mates for a glass of wine or settle in for a Sunday roast in the afternoon.”
Cllr Micheala Meikle, Stockport Council Cabinet Member for Economy, Regeneration and Skills, said: "Seeing the first businesses open at Weir Mill is an exciting milestone in bringing this landmark heritage site back to life. For many years, Weir Mill stood empty, so we're incredibly proud to see it becoming a thriving neighbourhood, with new homes alongside independent businesses that will bring more activity, footfall, jobs and investment into the town centre.
"The arrival of these businesses is a clear sign of the confidence people have in Stockport and its future. As the UK's largest town centre regeneration continues to transform the heart of our borough, it's another example of regeneration moving from plans on paper to real change that people can see for themselves. We're bringing landmark historic buildings back into use, creating opportunities for local businesses and creating new reasons for people to live, work, visit and spend time in Stockport town centre.”
