TAKE THAT occupy 25% of the 20 most played songs from Manchester.
Their songs Shine, Rule The World and Patience are in the top three spots and the band is also in seventh place with Greatest Day and 11th with Back for Good.
It´s interesting to see that there are no songs on the list from the Hacienda/Madchester period of bands like the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays
The list was compiled by PPL using data from TV, radio and online usage and also of songs played in restaurants, pubs, shops and other public places that play music. This list covers the most played songs from the year 2000 to the present day.
PPL is the organisation that licenses recorded music and then distributes licence fees to its tens of thousands of performers.
The BeeGees are also popular with as their songs Stayin´ Alive and Night Fever are in fourth and fifth place, How Deep Is Your Love in the 13th place and Jive Talkin in the 17th.
Other acts on the list are Simply Red, Oasis, David Grey, Ian Brown, 10cc and The Hollies.
Of course popularity does not always equate with quality and can we really say that Take That are really from Manchester? Anyway there are some major omissions here. Fans of more 'credible' Manchester bands (whatever that means), please start fuming now.
