Confidential has been for a look inside Manchester Airport's £1 billion 'super terminal' project.
The huge transformation programme will see Terminal Two more than double in size, becoming the airport’s main terminal building.
According to the comms team, more than 1,700 workers are currently involved in the project, with an estimated £1 million being spent per day on the construction, which will include over 100 new check-in desks, three new piers, 80 new shops, restaurants and beverage outlets, two new high-tech security halls and thousands more car parking spaces.
Phase one of the scheme has already completed, with the opening of the first new pier in April. The new Terminal Two extension is expected to open in April 2020, while the refurbishment of the existing Terminal Two building is scheduled to open in 2022.
By 2024, the fully redeveloped terminal is expected to be capable of handling 35 million passengers - around seven million more passengers than the whole airport handled in the last financial year.
Speaking about the project, Manchester Airport CEO, Andrew Cowan, said: "Over the coming years we will transform the airport for all of our customers, giving the North the world class airport it deserves. The investment we are making and the range of destinations we connect to, in all corners of the world, underlines the vital role Manchester Airport plays in creating jobs and driving growth across the North of England."
