Massive burgers and lush cocktails in the sunshine? Oh go on then...
Confidentials recently brought you news of Community Kitchen On The Square - a new alfresco dining spot outside of the Great Northern Warehouse sponsored by Estrella Damm.
With lockdown restrictions in the Greater Manchester area still tighter than Gordo in a craft beer bar, the more places we can eat out out, the better. So this one’s featuring heavily on our radar at the mo.
The SMF team have a smokin' hot fried chicken and waffle stall in the Arndale Market
First to man the pans were Evuna, bringing their top tier tapas and Spanish sunshine to the patio tables. But it’s a fast turnaround at CKTOS and the new blood is already getting ready to take over the show.
This weekend, surrealist party bar Impossible and lords of the fries South Manny Flavaz will be serving up a sample of their menu and a few exclusive dishes. The SMF team have a smokin' hot fried chicken and waffle stall in the Arndale Market but have been operating the kitchens at Impossible for some time and are also behind the hot new menu at BLVD.
On the menu at CKOTS expect souped up and spicy hunk ‘o junk plates like their Fleetwood Mac ‘n’ Cheese, the chilli-jam smeared Bangkok Badboy burger, the Impossible Royal chicken burger and a special Great Northern burger an’ all.
On the drinks front, you’ll find a selection of Impossible’s star cocktails, wine or Barcelona's favourite cerveza Estrella Damm.
But be quick if you want in on the spicy flavaz, they’re only there for one weekend before everybody’s favourite Italian rapscallions Salvi's take over for the bank holiday.
Great Northern centre director Mark Schofield said: “We’re so excited to be welcoming our next restaurant to the square this week. Impossible and South Manny Flavaz always serve up vibrant and delicious dishes, perfect for the summer, so we can’t wait to welcome more visitors down to enjoy a burger and a beer, or even just a cocktail in the sun.”
In an act of much needed kindness to those business hit by COVID-19, the pop-up restaurant on the square provides a safe and socially distanced outdoor venue for local businesses; giving those that are restricted with limited outdoor dining space the chance to pop up for four days in a central location.
The Great Northern is running this as a non-profit venture to help support Manchester’s hospitality industry, which has been amongst the most badly impacted sectors during the COVID-19 crisis. Brands and charities can apply to use the space via the Great Northern’s website. There’s no fee to pay to use the kitchen and brands just pay the electricity bill. The site is also offering the first keg of beer free of charge to give a head start for those setting up shop onsite.
All diners will experience table service to reduce close contact and ensure social distancing is kept at all times.
Impossible and South Manny Flavaz will be taking over the square from 12 noon Thursday 20th August til Sunday 23rd August. No booking required.
