See world-class cellist - best seats for just £10
Gordo was asked to go to a poetry reading a couple of weeks ago at the Town Hall. Yes, yes, he knows. But he isn’t all soup down tie. Ask him to recite a bit of Kipling or his hero Oscar Wilde and you may well get a surprise.
This poet was Lemn Sissay, with whom Gordo had an impromptu piss-up one night in Kro Piccadilly eight years ago. So, he thought, Lemn, let’s see if you’re as good sober, as you are fifteen sheets to the wind.
Organised by Manchester Camerata, it was part of their ‘Up Front’ series, called ‘I Have a Dream' marking the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s game-changing speech I Have A Dream.
Iin the Town Hall, Camerata had their principal (read world-fucking class here) players perform Beethoven’s String Quartet op. 130. The piece itself is pretty remarkable; then factor in that Ludwig wrote it when he was pretty old and deaf to boot. Blimey.
Gordo, on a Saturday night, had a brilliant time..
Manchester Camerata, Gordo thanks you for inviting him and for you lot being there generally. It did help that Lemn was awesome and the players were dead fit.
Now, to finish, Gordo promised to give a shout out; fair enough, done and worthy of it.
But yesterday he spotted the fact that at the Royal Northern College of Music this Friday night Camerata has a genius playing. The only better gig for Gordo would be Cantona giving a private audience in his apartment.
An Italian cellist called Sollima.
Called the Jimi Hendrix of the cello over in That There NYC, you need to watch him perform Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. Then tell Gordo your jaw wasn’t on your lap and tears weren’t in your eyes. That includes all you clubbers.
It is an absolute rarity to find Sollima playing in such a tight, class venue, as the RNCM.
Gordo has twisted the arm of Manchester Camerata and reserved 50 of the top priced (£26) seats for £10. You, dear reader, can buy them at that price. £10 each, best seats, save £16. There are ONLY 50 SEATS. WHEN THEY’RE GONE, THEY ARE GONE.
