SAN Carlo Gran Café, the exclusive lower ground dining room at Selfridges Exchange Square, has been named Café of the Year 2016 in the prestigious Les Routiers Awards.

The highly-regarded accolade - first established in Paris in 1934 - was awarded to Gran Café for consistently achieving 'outstanding standards'.
The European style dining café, patisserie and bar forms part of the San Carlo Group, Manchester’s long-standing independent restaurant group founded in 1992 by Carlo Distefano.
No stranger to awards, San Carlo Manchester has so far scooped no less than 30 awards, a testament to the group's enduring quality and eye for detail.
Commenting on the Les Routiers award win, Marcello Distefano, Managing Director of San Carlo Group Restaurants, said:
“We’re thrilled with the award as it’s decided on consistent customer feedback as well as other criteria, including inspections. Until the award came along Gran Café had been quietly enjoying great success. The unsung hero of the group, it offers a different way to enjoy the San Carlo experience, from all day brunches to our signature and unique afternoon tea or superfood salads and smoothies, the reaction to the menu at Gran Café has been fantastic and the award win reaffirms this.”
In celebration, the award-winning venue has introduced the Gran Café Afternoon Tea just in time for Mother's Day, including: speciality JING teas, champagne, hand crafted sweet and savoury treats, including smoked salmon and marscapone with red apple, cucumber, lime and dill and a mini melanzane parmigiana (layers of baked aubergine, mozzarella and Parmesan). The sweet selection includes a mini fresh fruit panna cotta, a Mr Selfridge chocolate éclair, a scone with clotted cream and jam and a slice of Italian style mille-feuille (£15.95 per person or £25.95 with champagne).
Gran Café is open 10am - 8pm Monday to Friday, 9am - 8pm on Saturdays and from 11am – 5.30pm on Sundays.
