Luciano by Gino closes to become another home of a long-established operator
1 minute read
There is a serially Italian restaurant site in Alderley Edge on the northern side of the village just before the railway bridge.
The most recent and very short-lived food and drink incarnation here was Luciano by Gino D’Acampo from Individual Restaurants. Before that it had been a Piccolino, and before that Panacea until a fire scuppered that particularly florid adventure.
Now it's back to the future with once more an Italian restaurant.
The root of the name Luciano is ‘shining light’ or maybe ‘extremely large late opera singer’, either way a tried and tested operator is taking over the site the week after Valentine's Day and is set to reopen in April.
San Carlo will be name above the door. This should bring both a steadying hand plus a bit of the group's characteristic flair to the location. Marcello Distefano, the managing director of San Carlo group, has called it "the best site in Cheshire". The proof of the pudding will be in the tasting of course.
The Alderley Edge crew will no doubt be familiar with the San Carlo formula from the city centre flagship, Fiorentina at Hale Barns and at their restaurant in Manchester Airport (or maybe Liverpool, London, Dubai or Cairo and so on).
Those very few people who have never been to a San Carlo can expect a spick and span interior and exterior with, in this instance, a large terrace. There'll be slick cutomer service. On the menu guests will find a good selection of Italian favourites plus an especially fine fish selection. The latter is one of the distinctive elements to the San Carlo experience.
There'll be daily specials too as well as a range of cocktails and wines crossing all price points and covering all tastes. There may be the odd picture of Manchester and Cheshire celebrities and footy players.
San Carlo Alderley Edge will be at London Rd, Alderley Edge SK9 7QD.
