'Joanne Roney will be recommended as the new chief executive of Manchester City Council, subject to confirmation.
'Following her selection in a rigorous interview process, personnel committee will be asked to recommend her appointment for final approval at the Council meeting on 14 December.
'Joanne is currently chief executive of Wakefield Metropolitan Borough Council, where she has held the top post since 2008. She started her career in local government as an apprentice with Birmingham City Council at 16 and has a strong track record in transforming public services and delivering major regeneration initiatives such as the Hepworth Gallery. Joanne has also previously worked as director of housing at Kirklees Council and executive director with responsibility for housing, communities and adult care services at Sheffield City Council. She was awarded the OBE for services to local government in 2009.
'The new chief executive will succeed Sir Howard Bernstein who has been chief executive of Manchester City Council since 1998.

'Subject to recommendation by personnel committee and approval by full Council, it is expected that the new chief executive would start in post in spring 2017.'
