NOMA's week began with so much promise.
The new square at the heart of the Co-operative's £800m 20-acre development, Sadler's Yard, was to be officially unveiled at a VIP launch on Thursday night. As was NOMA's new portable, volunteer-built Pilcrow Pub, the following day.
Then the CWS building caught fire and everything went to buggery.
2 and 3 Angel Square will be constructed next to the Co-op's new £142m headquarters
Still, not one to let a fire, near collapse or even a rent-boy chasing, crystal-methodist former chairman get 'em down, the Co-operative Group have dusted themselves off and lodged plans for 350,000 sq ft of new NOMA buildings.
Designed by AHR architects, 2 and 3 Angel Square will be constructed over nine and eleven storeys next to the Co-op's new £142m headquarters at the mighty 1 Angel Square - 'the world's most environmentally friendly building'.
David Pringle, director of NOMA at The Co-operative Group, said: “This new build element of NOMA offers a contrast to the post-industrial splendour of our listed buildings.
“We want the whole neighbourhood to be totally cohesive in design terms and 2 and 3 Angel Square will broaden our offer for those businesses who want a more traditional modern office than some of the quirkier reconfigurations we have planned.”
The council will consider the application later this year with completition expected sometime in late-2018, subject to approval.
2 and 3 Angel Square are a joint venture with £30bn fund managers Hermes Investment Management.
