THE PJ Livesey Group has submitted a hybrid planning application for the seventeen-acre former-MMU campus site in Didsbury.

It was important to the University that redevelopment of the former campus site is of the highest quality

The plans further develop the regeneration framework drawn up by Manchester City Council following MMU's move to Birley Fields and include a total of 93 new house and apartments and the potential for a new primary school.

The scheme will see the conversion of the Grade II-listed Administration Building and Grade II-listed Chapel, and the retention of three more listed buildings together with the construction of a number of large family-sized homes in line with the city’s aspirations to expand Manchester's mix of available housing stock.

PJ Livesey director James Woodmansee said: “It is vitally important that we create the right kind of residential development that will not only enhance Didsbury but create a real choice for families wanting to live within Manchester.

“This is a large site with two distinctive heritage buildings and the new build homes will respect the location and provide a new level of accommodation for Didsbury.”

The Manchester-based company worked with HOW planning and Calderpeel Architects to draw up the scheme which will see:

- The main Administration building converted into nineteen apartments and twelve houses.

- The Chapel converted into ten luxury apartments.

- The conversion of three smaller listed buildings: The Lodge, 801 and 803 Wilmslow Road into three homes.

- 42 new build houses ranging in size from 1,283 sq ft to 3,372 sq ft with an emphasis on outside space, high quality architecture and the retention of trees.

- There are also plans for a new build block of seven apartments ranging from 2,081 sqft to a four bedroom 2,782sqft penthouse.

- The proposals include an outline application for a new primary school on the Broomhurst Hall site.

John Cunningham, Director of Finance at MMU said: "It was important to the University that redevelopment of the former campus site is of the highest quality and we are very excited by the proposals put forward by the PJ Livesey Group. We believe they have enhanced and evolved the original brief and this scheme will deliver a lasting legacy to the area."
