THE bar and restaurant group behind Northern Quarter's popular Cord and Simple bars have eyes on a new venue overlooking Cutting Room Square in Ancoats.

There's plenty more to come too. Ancoats is rising...

The House of Adventure group, which also operates Wood, Wine Deli on Tib Street, have just submitted a new premises licence for Unit 4 of the Ice Plant on Blossom Street (pictured above) - a former Ice Cream warehouse renovated in recent years by the Northern Group into a £12m residential complex. The building is also home to the Premier convenience store and the Koffee Lock.

Should the group's application be approved, the venue will be the latest opening in Ancoats' so-called wider Food & Drink Strategy - aiming to bring a 'new cluster of cafes, restaurants, craft breweries, delis and pop-up food operators' to the area over the next twelve months.

..House of Adventure also run NQ's Wood, Wine & Deli

Back in March 2015, Confidential revealed that two new restaurants, Rudy's Pizza and Goose Fat & Wild Garlic, planned to launch this year on Cutting Room Square in the Fairbairn Building - temporary home to street food outfit Guerrilla Eats in 2014. Salford-based microbrewers, Seven Brothers, have also announced their intention to open a new bar in the area.

Though it's not only food and drink set to galvanize Ancoats; earlier this month Phase One of Manchester Life's £1bn East Manchester masterplan, comprising 426 new flats for the area, got the go ahead; there's plans for a new, modern town house scheme around the corner; a £30m apartment scheme nearby; and less popular plans for an eight-storey car park for Hood Street. Not to mention the 320 apartments recently put to market in the nearby Grade II-listed Royal Mills.

Blimey. Northern Quarter's more reticent neighbour has certainly kicked-in, and with so many large-scale schemes in the pipeline, there's little wonder operators are willing to take a punt in the area.

There's plenty more to come too... Ancoats rising.

The consultation date for the new venue ends on the 12 August 2015.
