MANCHESTER-based developer Knott Mill Securities are preparing to put forward plans for a new fourteen-storey residential development in Castlefield.
We're not sold on the design of Deansgate South...
The top twelve floors of 'Deansgate South' will offer a mix of one and two bed apartments with commericial space and car parking on the lower floors.
The new development, which should go before the council this month, is located by the River Medlock on the Bridgewater Viaduct (behind Atlas Bar) and within Plot H of the council's proposed 20-acre Great Jackson Street framework.
Back in March 2015 the Council Executive were asked to approved new plans for Great Jackson Street - revised from a previous framework lodged in 2007 - for a new 'high quality residential neighbourhood' for South Central Manchester including apartments and townhouses.
The proposed 2007 scheme, designed by SimpsonHaugh & Partners, came to a halt when the recession hit. The site is currently used primarily for car parking, with a number of light industrial units and warehouses.
It is understood that developers Renaker - who were granted a £55m loan by the Homes & Communities Agency to deliver 800 new homes in Manchester and Salford earlier this year - have also purchased plots within the Great Jackson Street site.
We're not sold on the design of Deansgate South, it being reminiscent of OMI's uninspired Alto development on Trinity Way, however, these appear to be the preliminary renders so fingers crossed.
Before the planning application is submitted, the developer is seeking your feedback here (deadline: Friday 16 October)
