THE final bidder for Manchester's stricken London Road Fire Station (LRFS) has been revealed.

Britannia CEO Alex Langsam must count himself lucky to make £10m from this abused building

Henry Boot Developments - the property group behind The Courthouse building on Deansgate (home to Hawksmoor and Handmade Burger Co) - will contest Spinningfields developer Allied London and Old Trafford-based property firm Generation for the 109-year-old Grade II-listed Edwardian Baroque structure.

Altrincham-based Britannia Hotels - who acquired the iconic Piccadilly structure back in March 1986 and have since let it fall into grave disrepair - finally conceded to sell the building in April following threats of a second Compulsory Purchase Order from Manchester City Council and tireless campaigning by the Friends of London Road Fire Station.

Confidential revealed back in May that Britannia were 'unlikely' to consider offers below £10m.

Henry Boot are currently engaged in a £150m joint venture with commercial property investor Capital Centric to transform a 450,000 sq ft area close to LRFS. The ambitious development, titled Kampus, includes 500 new apartments, two new hotels, bars, restaurants, cafes and offices centred around the barricaded Little David Street.

.LRFS has fallen into a grave state of disrepair since Britannia acquired it in 1986

Each bidding developer has committed to a 'mixed-use' scheme for LRFS, something that satisfies Friends of London Road Fire Station campaigner, Adam Prince:

“We've always been afraid the building would just be turned into another hotel - so we're exciting to hear that three locally connected developers are offering a visionary mixed use and civic accessible London Road Fire Station scheme. It's everything we have fought for and something we were told could never be achieved.

"With Devo Manc on the horizon and the necessary CPO powers that brings with it, Britannia CEO Alex Langsam must count himself lucky to make £10m from this abused building - we hope he soon stops stalling and sells up."

LRFS is being marketed by Christie & Co.
