Salford will be the third location for award-winning tapas restaurant
Brothers Ben and Joe Wright have revealed that the third branch of Porta, their multi award-winning tapas bar, will open on Salford’s Chapel Street this November.
The first Porta in Chester opened in 2012, next door to their highly acclaimed bistro Joseph Benjamin, and was inspired by the informality and high quality of Spanish tapas bars in Barcelona and Madrid.
Our Head Chef, Jose Garzón, is extremely talented and has a brilliant instinct for flavour
Thanks to its success, they opened a second branch in 2016, opposite Altrincham’s bustling Market Hall. The duo’s upcoming venture on Chapel Street promises the same formula of ‘enthusiastically Iberian’ tapas dishes and drinks.
All three branches of Porta encompass a laid-back atmosphere with bar stools and casual tables (they don’t take bookings) and outstanding tapas classics, together with a wide range of specially selected Spanish wines, Cava, beers and sherries.
Dishes and bar snacks include salted Catalan almonds, Gordal olives and scorched padron peppers, while signature tapas dishes include Picos de Europa blue cheese with caramelised walnuts, sultanas and honey; purple sprouting broccoli with romesco sauce and almonds, as well as fried Andalucian style squid with alioli.
"Opening our third Porta site in Salford is a dream come true for us and we have been so overwhelmed by the response,” said co-founder, Joe Wright.
“Our Head Chef, Jose Garzón, is extremely talented and has a brilliant instinct for flavour. Whether it’s casual drinks with some bread and olive oil or a sit-down dinner, we are eager to maintain the vibe of informal and fun, staying true to the ethos of a relaxed, independent neighbourhood restaurant.”
In an interview back in March, Joe's brother Ben told The Confidentials;
“The principle is keeping things simple and trying not to complicate things. It’s easy to get dragged along by adding things to menus and getting carried away, so it’s really good to focus on simple, honest, good value, fun experience, which differentiates us from the other tapas bars around."
Subject to refurbishment and building work timescales, Porta is due to open on Chapel Street at the end of November 2018.
