The restaurant made the difficult announcement on social media last night
Manchester favourite Street Urchin has sadly announced its closure following a health emergency involving one of its owners.
Since its opening back in 2019, the Ancoats restaurant became a popular spot, boasting a menu of the best locally and ethically sourced produce that husband-and-wife team Kevin and Rachel Choudhary could get hold of.
Unfortunately, Co-owner Rachel took to social media yesterday evening (30 April) to explain the reason for their closure. Kevin had suffered from a heart attack and, though on the mend, they were unable to continue operating.
The post, picturing the restaurant interior and its hanging plants, had a text overlay which read 'Street Urchin has closed. Kev (my husband and head chef) had a heart attack, he is recovering (slowly) but we are unable to continue as a business. We are heartbroken.' The caption read:
'Thank you to our amazing team who supported us over all the years and continued to do so in these dark times. Thank you also to our suppliers, we never thought this would happen. We’re so sorry.'
Many local brands, businesses and fans of the restaurant have since reached out to send their well wishes.
