Cosy cafe by day, vibrant bar come evening
GOOD times all the time are promised at On The Hush, hidden in plain sight on the fringes of the Northern Quarter. The cosy cafe by day turns into a vibrant bar come evening, with live singers at the grand piano and lady DJs bringing the sounds as the lights turn low from 7pm on Saturday.
They’re not just a pretty place – all Instagrammable arty graffiti, phone booths and floral furnishings – they also do beautiful bevvies, taking the coffee-and-cake offer to the next level with their Luxe Drinks. These all come with a macaroon and you can pick from the likes of Unicorn Latte, resplendent in a choice of pastels, or the pink-hued On Wednesdays We Wear Pink Hot Chocolate: a hazelnut-flavoured white hot chocolate crowned with whipped cream and sprinkled with gold glitter, marshmallows and Oreo crumbs. Drink now, diet later.
As well as fresh cakes and bakes on the counter, you can book for bottomless brunch Wednesday through Sunday from 3pm (let them know when booking for Saturday if you’d like to outstay your welcome), along with small plates all day (smashed avo, Turkish eggs, that kind of thing) and the likes of veggie pesto and petit pois gnocchi or creamy chicken and chorizo rigatoni, if you fancy something more substantial as day turns to night and you feel the need to line that stomach.
Fresh Off The Catwalk brings the gin, while butterfly-adorned Summer Breeze is a fruity vodka number. There’s a selection of Prosecco cocktails, like the blue Fallen Angel with its bubble garnish, and also a range of sharers, available for two or four people and including the cloud-toppedUnicorn Fluff and amaretto-based The Grey Stuff. Perhaps best of all, though, is the now-famous Cinderella, served in a glass slipper, and brimming with pink gin.
