Budget fashion brand is first new tenant to be announced for the centre’s £74 million expansion
Intu Trafford Centre has revealed Primark will open a brand new store during 2019, as the centre gears up for a multi-million pound transformation.
The budget brand is the first store confirmed to take space in the 110,000 square feet redevelopment at Barton Square, the shopping centre’s current furniture and homeware destination.
The £74m project will also introduce two new floors of shops and a glass-domed roof over the Barton Square courtyard, and is expected to have a stronger fashion focus.
Primark will move into the former BHS Home unit, joining other brands already in place including SEA LIFE Manchester, LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre and Next Home.
Colin Flinn, regional managing director for intu, said: “This is a significant milestone for intu Trafford Centre that will enable us to reposition and redevelop an important part of the centre so that we can create even better customer experiences and more opportunities for retailers to flourish.
“intu Trafford Centre is already one of the UK’s prime retail and leisure destinations and known around the world for its unique design and architecture which was celebrated in a BBC Radio 4 arts documentary earlier this year. The work we are planning at Barton Square will attract more visitors for longer by expanding the centre’s retail and leisure mix and creating a new space befitting this architecturally-rich building.”
Fans of Primark will have to wait a little while to start shoppinh, as work is due to start on site during the first half of next year with an expected opening during 2019. In the mean time shoppers can browse the trend-led wares at the Primark concession in Selfridges Trafford.
