MY THAI are planning to open a second Manchester branch at the Northern Quarter spot recently vacated by Madera (pictured above) on Tib Street, which before that had been vacated by Wood Wine Deli. Before that, it was FYG deli and wine bar and before that it could have been any number of pre-hipster bistros and sourdough sellers.

There’s a lot of banter in our restaurants

Signs are good for this one to stick though, as the fast-growing Northern Thai food brand - founded in Bradford in 2014 by business partners Simon Grybas and Bee Laltham - already have two restaurants in Leeds, and one each in Bradford, York, Bury and Blackpool, as well as a newish branch on John Dalton Street, Manchester (reviewed here).

The menu offers typical Thai dishes such as Doo Dee Tom Yum and traffic light curries (red, yellow or green), as well as a ‘foodies’ section for Thai enthusiasts who want to relive the more authentic, fiery dishes of their gap-year.

“There’s a lot of banter in our restaurants,” Grybas told Confidential in June 2016. “Customers can anticipate a serving of comedy with their food. The emphasis is on a friendly, informal atmosphere and authentic Thai cuisine that’s very affordable.

"All the menus are different at each site but customers can expect all the Thai classics at every branch. I’d particularly recommend the Gra Pow Moo Sub (wok fried minced pork, chilli, green beans, bamboo and holy basil) - served in the traditional Thai manner with jasmine rice and a fried egg on top.”

My Thai should be a solid addition to the current Northern Quarter Asian food offering which includes Sweet Mandarin Chinese restaurant, Malaysian restaurant Ning, and the nearby Viet Shack in Arndale Market.

It will also be in good company amongst other new, upcoming Northern Quarter openings such as Show Me (from the team behind Tattu) and Bundobust, which sells Indian street food alongside craft beer.
