WHEN it comes to nightlife, Manchester does bars very well. You only have to look at our Best Of Manchester Bars list to see a snippet of the abundance of real good time bars in the city.

But when the bars call last orders and the night still feels young where is there to go that’s not just a late night bar with dancefloor?

The remaining lap dancing poles in the two 25 seater booths are apparently just for show. Not that type of show you filthy buggers.

There are a few places of note that always pull in the late night punters; Sankeys and South are both hugely popular, but looking around the choice of real, dance up a sweat, quality night spots can seem limited in a city that once boasted two of the most famous nightclubs in the world - the Twisted Wheel and The Hacienda.

One company attempting to fill this void is Repotia, a new nightclub on Lloyd Street in the venue formerly occupied by lap dancing bar Boutique and next door to Silks - another lap dancing bar.

Of course before hosting naked ladies it was the famous Devilles and Cellar Vie clubs, so maybe dancing with your clothes on is in the blood as well.

Repotia

Repotia is a guest list only club that wants to be known for being ‘exclusive, trendy and chic’ although that doesn’t mean you’ll get turned away if you just turn up, rather you’ll be added to the Repotia list for future reference, if you meet the ‘sharp and sexy’ dress code criteria that is.

With the aim of capturing a well-to-do market, Repotia is for young professionals who like to sip Armand de Brignac Champagne (from a bespoke built Champagne bar) to the sounds of ‘the very best in RnB, hip-hop, funky house and club classics.’

Repotia

Open from 10pm-4am, entrance prices to their ‘exclusive venue’ seem reasonable at £5 before 11pm and £10 thereafter, but it’s the booths where it all starts to become a bit bling.

Events manager, Stephen Potts, said: “Booths start at £150 for three people and go up to £2,000 for 20-25 people. These prices include champagne, fruit platters and other additional touches. The booths are very exclusive and come in different sizes dependent on the number of guests.”

Of course, those used to Boutique or that stumble in from Silks next door may be expecting their fruit platter grapes to be fed to them during a strip tease, but Stephen says there’ll be nothing of the sort at Repotia. The remaining lap dancing poles in the two 25 seater booths are apparently just for show. Not that type of show, you filthy buggers.

Music-wise the plan is to bring in big name DJs once summer is out of the way. Stephen said: “The summer months are always hard for clubs because people are away on holiday, which is why we’ve only had a soft launch so far. But come autumn, we’re lining up some DJs to pull in the home crowds and launch properly.”

Repotia is of course for a very niche demographic, so much so that those who aren’t down with the kids will want to vomit into a Champagne bucket over their offering. But for those who don’t, you can pay Manchester’s newest club a visit at 18-22 Lloyd Street and give us your feedback below.
