THIS summer Ministry of Craft, a series of sociable craft courses held in Manchester, is offering classes for under 16s. From 31 July - 16 August Ministry of Craft Academy will host a series of full or half day workshops designed for 10 - 16 year olds.

Workshops on offer include screen print a T-shirt, making sweet inspired fimo jewellery and design a cushion or bag.

The workshops focus on sewing, printing, jewellery-making and accessories and are all aimed at young crafting enthusiasts, whatever their level of experience.

Making the most of the long summer break from school, Ministry of Craft Academy students will have the chance to work in a fun, creative and safe environment. They’ll be positively encouraged to put forward their ideas and turn them into finished projects. They'll leave confident in a range of crafty skills as well as getting to try something creative and different and make some new friends.

Owner Sam Sterken said: “Lots of customers were asking us if they were able to send their children on courses, but up until now, they always had to be accompanied by an adult. So due to popular demand we’re putting on a fortnight of courses that under 16s can come to on their own - almost like a crafty summer camp.

“The courses are all really affordable and last one day or less. Like adults, loads of young people are interested in design and crafting these days, and have lots of great ideas that they want to put into practice. We’re hoping to give them the skills to do that, and give them a really rewarding day at the same time.”

Workshops on offer include screen print a T-shirt, making sweet inspired fimo jewellery and design a cushion or bag. All sewlab workshops will include teaching basic sewing machine skills, and none of the workshops require any prior knowledge.
