AND LO, so it was told, that when Manchester International Festival begins to stir temperatures shall soar and Manchester shall come alive with sight and song, drama and dance, sausage and beer.

The square will open to the public on Tuesday 30 June between midday to 8pm

The 'home of the festival', Festival Square, is currently firing-up on Albert Square and last night organisers invited guests including Sir Richard Leese, DJ Dave Haslam and chef Paul Heathcote for a preview of the space - designed by students from Manchester Art School at MMU.

WHAT IS MIF?

The square - which will welcome up to 250,000 punters over the course of the next three weeks - will open to the public for a test run on Tuesday 30 June between midday to 8pm and then from Friday 3 July until Sunday 19 July between midday to late.

There'll be food trucks, a Thwaites beer tent (pints from £3.80 - not bad), free performances, a bloke on the Kora, lots of midweek loafing about and very little work done.

Well, c'mon now, it's MIF...
