The Didsbury branch will close this month, but don’t worry, their Chorlton venue lives on
After seven years, Mary and Archie, the independently owned restaurant, bar and neighbourhood hangout has announced via social media that it will close its West Didsbury venue on Burton Road.
Opening in 2011, Mary & Archie became a favourite kid-friendly, dog-friendly bolthole for regulars who enjoyed its mix of home cooked, locally sourced grub, craft beers and cocktails.
It is not the end for Mary & Archie
The relaxed all-day beer and food combo proved so successful that in March 2016 the owners opened a second venue in neighbouring suburb, Chorlton - which remains open indefinitely.
"Yes, it's the end of an era for us," co-owner Elli Peake told Confidential, "but we put in seven good years and feel as the area has changed considerably in that time it is time for us to move on."
"We're planning to extend at the Chorlton site," continued Peake. "We've already increased our food offering with a new small plates menu there and there will be some slight alterations to the outside so that the space can be used all year round but keeping the open beer garden.
"We have other ideas and things in the pipeline, hopefully to include a street food side of the business."
The venue says it will also continue to develop their calendar of live music events and mini festivals such as their upcoming Country Trash event on Sunday 22nd July, featuring a day of live music, county vinyl and a BBQ on their sun trap terrace.
Although Mary and Archie will be closing the doors at number 200 Burton Road on 30th July, they’re a positive bunch and are going out with a characteristic bang, celebrating seven years with ‘a big old knees up on Friday the 27th of July’.
We expect the Didsbury landlord already has another all-day brunch and cocktail venue lined up to immediately take their place in this prime spot.

Attention all! After 7 brilliant years in our little corner spot on Burton Road we have to announce that it is now time for us to move on.
It has been an absolute pleasure serving the people of Didsbury and beyond and we feel privileged to have had those years to do that. We have been fortunate enough to meet and work with so many fantastic people over the years and it really will be a very emotional goodbye from us. We will be closing our doors at number 200 Burton Road on 30th July.
We hope that you can join us in celebrating 7 fantastic years and see us out with a bang for our final weekend of service starting with a big old knees up on Friday the 27th of July.
It is not the end for Mary & Archie, we will be continuing to grow our Chorlton site as well as expanding on some exciting new ideas. So, watch this space!
We’d like to take this opportunity to say a humongous thank-you to all our staff and regulars, we love you - you are what made us.
Big love,
Team M&A. xxx
The news was followed by multiple comments from disappointed customers sorry to see them go.
Why oh why would @maryandarchie close its West Didsbury location when it’s the best and most lovable bar in the north of England? Unbelievably depressing news.
