NOMINATIONS are still open for Manchester City Council’s Women’s Awards 2013 after Manchester City Council extended the deadline until Friday 25 January.

"We really want to make sure that on a day when women's achievements are acknowledged worldwide that we do our bit in Manchester and acknowledge women's positive contribution to our city."

The annual awards recognise hard working women in the city who serve to improve other women’s lives as well as excel in their chosen field.

Categories include women who have made an outstanding contribution in business, sport, culture, art, science, environment, outstanding young woman and valuing older people.

Individual women or an organisation that is working to improve women's lives can be nominated for an award which recognises the valuable contribution that women make to the city.

Councillor Suzanne Richards, Chair of the International Women's Day steering group said: "This is a joint celebration where we can truly celebrate women and their contribution to our city and society in general.

"I would urge people to think about the women they know and if you think anyone would make a worthy nominee make an effort to nominate them today. We really want to make sure that on a day when women's achievements are acknowledged worldwide that we do our bit in Manchester and acknowledge women's positive contribution to our city."

The Awards ceremony will coincide with International Women's Day this year and will be held on Friday 8 March 2013 in Manchester Town Hall. Nomination forms can be downloaded from the website here.
