BELOW is information from the council regarding this year's Remembrance Sunday event in Manchester city centre:
The parade will arrive in St Peter's Square at 10.55am
Civic dignitaries, servicemen and women, service and ex-service organisations, faith leaders and uniformed organisations, will take part in Manchester’s Remembrance Day procession and service on Sunday 8 November 2015.
At 10.15am a parade led by the Greater Manchester Police Band including senior representatives from the Navy, Army, Air Force, Royal British Legion, Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, Reserve Forces and 207 Field Hospital will depart from outside the Radisson Hotel on Peter Street.
The parade will join the Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Paul Murphy OBE, the Lord Lieutenant and civic dignitaries at the cenotaph in St Peter’s Square, opposite the Cooper Street entrance of the town hall, for the Remembrance Day service at 10.55am.
Also present at the service will be faith leaders, including representatives from the Muslim, Afro-Caribbean Christian Churches, Sikh, Hindu, Jain and Jewish communities along with clergy from the Free Church, Church of England and Catholic Church; as well as elected members, consuls and magistrates.
After the service, the parade will then return to Albert Square for the March Past of Service Organisations from 11.45am-12.15pm.
Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Paul Murphy OBE, said: “I am extremely proud to be leading the commemoration for Remembrance Sunday. It will be an honour to meet with members of the armed services and faith leaders to mark this solemn day along with the people of Manchester.
“Remembrance Sunday gives us time to reflect on past and present conflicts and is a chance for us all to express our respect for the men and women who have given their lives in the fight for freedom.
“We should all spare a thought for those still risking life and limb in conflicts across the globe and the families they have left behind. It is extremely important we take the time to remember the devastating consequences of historic conflicts and the enormous sacrifices made by all members of the armed forces.”
