Eton mess to escape rooms - everything you need for a day out with family or friends
Spring is here and it’s almost the Glorious Twelfth. April 12th of course, when we can enjoy outdoor get-togethers with friends and family. Start making those plans now.
Get the gang together for some bar-hopping in the spring sunshine – there’s nowhere like Manchester’s Corn Exchange for alfresco food and drink.
Start off with a long lazy lunch. Unwind with three courses and a bottle of wine at Gino d’Acampo – olives and garlic bread to nibble, farfalle with mushrooms and spinach then a cheeky cherry and amaretto tart perhaps? Maybe some street food small plates and a biryani from Delhi House Cafe? The lamb keema samosa chaat is a top pick – perfect with a beer. If you’re after something simple, sandwiches and fries at Cosy Club or their ever-popular burgers are a good bet.
Move on and make the most of everything the Corn Exchange has to offer. Enjoy some drinks from Banyan – their gin perfect serves are just the thing for afternoons like these. And all day long, it’s 2-4-1 cocktails.
There’s no need to go elsewhere because when dinner time comes around, just order some food from any one of the many restaurants. Will it be fresh, creamy mozzarella from Salvi’s? Rustica truffle salami pizza from Zizzi? Or perhaps handmade pasta from Vapiano? Their Bolognese is a Confidential fave and the ferocity of their arrabbiata makes it another close contender. A little chilli heat is always good for evening dining on the terrace.
Manchester’s Corn Exchange is also an ideal place for a family day out with plenty to keep everyone entertained. Escape Hunt is the place for a bit of group bonding over puzzles and pressure with adventures for teams of up to 4 players of 8 years old and over. Don’t sulk when the kids are better at it than you are. This April, the Escape Hunt tension is coming to town – literally. All the adventure takes place outdoors so you can make memories on the move as you close the portal to a magical world or moonlight as a top spy.
When you escape (should that be if?) go out for dinner at the Corn Exchange too. Zizzi has a good kids menu as does Gino d’Acampo and you can’t go wrong with pizza and pasta.
Book your next adventure. Right now, a meal and a bottle of wine outside at an actual restaurant feels like an awfully big adventure and we can’t wait.
