MANCHESTER-based publisher Comma Press has launched a new social media platform for creative writers.

MacGuffin is of course also a boon for readers

It's called MacGuffin (after the term for an item which drives a plot), and Comma Press bill it as the 'world's first taggable and searchable jukebox for literature'.

Macguffin hosts short stories and poetry in text and audio form. Anyone can upload a poem or short story provided they also upload a reading. Luckily for those writers who don't have access to a professional recording studio, Comma positively encourage writers to capture ambient sounds such as birdsong in the background, a dog barking or anything that contributes to the feel of the story (though heavy traffic is probably less atmospheric).

MacGuffin is of course also a boon for readers - not only can they sample a range of short stories for free but the format has a tagging system to help readers curate content, meaning anyone can add tags to anyone else's poem to describe it, or add it to a reading list.

Visit MacGuffin to find out more. Apps will soon follow.
